Description:
Taken from an aricle published in the Guardian Journal on 6th November 1972.
'The small and compact village of Gunthorpe is a community in itself and has on hand the busy Bawtry Road. This is clearly seen on our picture, crossing the River Trent over Gunthorpe Bridge. The road then runs north, skirting the edge of the built-up area of the parish.Immediately to the right of the main road once it has crossed the bridge lies the first entrance into the village. The road also leads to a popular riverside public house, a favourite spot for hundreds on a summer weekend. The village caravan site adjoins the main road, but is concealed from the traffic.Gunthorpe is one of the few villages that is not inconvenienced by the proximity of such a busy road, in fact it benefits from its presence. To the left of te road lies the gravel workings. Again these are fairly well hidden from passing motorists and are certainly screened from people in Gunthorpe village itself.'
