Description:
This photograph shows a westbound LMS train passing over the Nottingham Canal and about to pass under the London Road Bridge and enter Nottingham Midland Station. The building behind the train is the original GNR terminus known as London Road (Low Level after 1899). As of 2011 all described above still exists, although London Road Low Level Station is now a sports centre and has no railway connections. Behind the Low Level Station was London Road High Level Station, small parts of the structure upon which the High level Station stood, can be seen in far backgound beyond the front of the locomotive. None of the High Level structure (which opened in 1899 and finally closed in the early 1970s) still exists (information supplied by Charles Weightman).
