Description: Interior of No.2 retort seen from the east end. All the roof-spars were cast-iron, this was due to the heat they had to withstand during the production of coal-gas and the heavy weight they had to bear with the large thick slates. Some where blown off in the January gales and the remainder were removed for safety reasons.
