About this image
North-east aspect. This chapel was planned as part of Cumber House; designed by TC Hine in 1865, in memory of Henry Pelham Alexander Clinton, the sixth Duke of Newcastle. The chapel was never finished: TC Hine began in 1867 but the construction company went bankrupt in 1869.
This was replaced by the later Chapel of St. Mary the Virgin in 1886-89.
