Built in 1620 and is now Coal Board property. Prior to that it was owned by the Duke of Portland as his estate office and up until 1877 it was owned by the Beardall family.
Captain John Reginald Beardall, commander of the United States cruiser, Vincennes, who has been appointed naval aide-de-camp to President Roosevelt, is a son of the late William Beardall, born at Clarkson's Hall, Mansfield Woodhouse, who was articled to Frederick Bakewell, architect, of Nottingham. His mother, whose maiden name is Florence Bonser, is still alive at the age of 82. She was a native of Sutton-in-Ashfield. Capt. Beardall has held a number of responsible posts in the US Navy.
