About this image
Remains of the motte and bailey castle at Laxton seen from the north. The castle seems to have been constructed shortly after the Norman invasion in 1066 and remained in use until at least the late 13th century. By the 16th century it was in ruins and a brick manor house was constructed within the inner bailey but this itself is also long gone leaving just a complex of well-preserved earthworks on the castle site today.
