Description:
The photographer's original caption reads: 'The village green [looking north-east]. In the foreground is the Old Melton Road, which leaves the A606 on the west side of the village, and rejoins it on the east side. The white building was the Methodist Chapel, which closed its doors in 1973, in favour of a new chapel on Burnside Avenue, Tollerton. In the circular recess between the upper windows was a stone engraved 1797. This was removed by the present owner, and lies in the garden of the house behind the trees on the left edge of the photograph. The date, in Roman numerals, is engraved in a strip of cement across the centre of the recess, 1975, this being the year the owner re-decorated it. It serves no purpose other than to store the owner's surplus furniture. The two cottages in the background are Priory Cottages, and date from the late 18th century. Behind the Chapel are Chapel Cottages.'
The photographer's bicycle can be seen leaning against the wall.
