Looking west. This line was the ex-Great Northern Railway Derbyshire Extension that linked Nottingham with Pinxton, Ilkeston, Derby and Burton upon Trent. By the date of this photo it had been truncated to form a branch from Netherfield Junction to Gedling Colliery. Passenger services over this stretch had ceased in 1960.
