Description:
A pair of Class 20s (the leading one is 8037, originally D8037 and later 20037) negotiate Netherfield Lane Crossing with empties destined for Gedling Colliery.
The photographer's original caption reads: 'Netherfield Lane level crossing, looking North. It is here that Netherfield Lane commences and continues in a southerly direction to terminate at LNW Terrace, 0.75 mile away. On the right edge is the signal box. Yesteryear this was an important line known as the Back Line going out to Stafford and the west. It was also the line into Colwick MPD. Today it serves Gedling Colliery only, where the line terminates ... In the right background is Dennis Street. The other side of the level crossing is Victoria Road.'
It should be added that today the section of Netherfield Lane east of the site of the level crossing has been renamed Victoria Road.
