Description:
The former station master's house at Netherfield, boarded up and empty. The Nottingham-Grantham railway line is to the left, the houses beyond being in Balmoral Road. Looking south-west. In July 2012 the house was still unoccupied, although it is not clear whether it had seen any use in the intervening 35-year period or had remained vacant for all of that time.
The photographer's original caption reads: 'Ex level-crossing keeper's house, at the west end of Meadow Road. Beyond the railway (Great Northern Railway Grantham Line) is Balmoral Road. The level crossing was replaced by Chaworth Road Bridge in 1889, and from then the house was extended to its present size to accommodate the Stationmaster of Netherfield & Colwick Station. As the station became a pay-train station, the Stationmaster remained there until his retirement shortly afterwards, when he left to live elsewhere. Since then it has remained unoccupied.'
