Description:
Work began on Nuthall Temple in 1754 and was inhabited by the Sedley Family in 1757. The architect was Thomas Wright, commissioned by Sir Charles Sedley. The Temple was sold in 1819 to Robert Holden of Darley Abbey, and was inherited by the squire of Nuthall, the Reverend Robert Holden, in 1913. In 1929, after Reverend Holden had died, some of the house was demolished and set alight. It remained standing until the 1960s, when it was blown up with explosives and its remains buried during the construction of the M1.
